Part 36 – The new building……
April 11, 2009
Hiya,
Not much done today just the carving for the fourth building!

The original plan has changed slightly, i am now putting a large shed door in the front of the building as well as i want to put in a fully kitted out workshop and have the doors open so it can all be seen.
So i started out by drawing out the sections to be carved and glueing them to the board.

Then i added a surround of balsa wood 5mm thick

Then after casting with javis plaster I left it to semi dry for an hour then sat for three hours and carved all the stone work. Then when completly dry i broke the balsa away and carefully lifted the sections. I then glued these onto there black foamcard backings.

Hi, very interesting blog. What is javis plaster? Do you have a track plan?
Hiya,
Thanks for the comments!!
Javis plaster is a plaster not dissimilar to dental plaster made by Javis in the UK – its sets fast and is quite strong on its own so great for carving. I always add a back panel of foam card if its a large area though to make sure it stays strong. My track plan is only drawn on and is on page one of my blog i think……….

Hi,
Thanks for a really great blog.
I’ve read every post and it’s great to see Tumbledown Wharf slowing taking shape.
I haven’t done any modelling for many years but was thinking of getting back into it with a small industrial railway like yours, probably in O-14.
Is there any online resources or books you’d advise a total novice like myself to delve into for more advice and inspiration?
I’ve checked out the O-14 site/Yahoo group and the Narrow Gauge Yahoo group.
Thanks again for a highly informative site.
Tony.
